Follow-up: Concerns Regarding School Space & Class Composition 2017-2018

Thank you to the 30 plus parents/guardians that wrote letters to the school district and or Jordan Watters (Our school trustee). If you would like to know more about how the changes to the legislation dictating class size will impact your child and the education of children at Macaulay for the 2017-2018 school year please attend the meeting on Monday June 19th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the school gym.

Karen MacEwan (Principal) and Tim McCreesh (Vice-Principal) are holding an information evening to discuss how the restored teachers contract language will impact class sizes and class composition  for the upcoming school year. As well as the impact of the addition of three new English divisions (classrooms) and the lack of class room space to accommodate the new divisions.

computer cartAs you may already know Macaulay is scheduled to close the computer lab classroom at the end of this month in favour of a mobile lab, consisting of laptops/Ipads. In addition the two existing portables will be fully utilized all day with shared programs in both spaces.

While the average class size is going down some classes will need to be split into two grades with as few as 4 children from one grade, with the balance of another grade forming a full classroom. The addition of three additional classes also places a demand on library, gym, music, and computer time. If any of these issues are a concern then please join us for the meeting on Monday June 19th from 6:30-7:30 at Macaulay.

For more information about what the issues are please read through the letters that were sent on behalf of the teachers and the PAC to the school district. In addition here is the first post on the subject.
